Very exciting news to share with everyone! Hinman Construction was asked to come to Chicago to be one of the Judges for the 2025 Master Design Awards! It was a process for sure, but well worth it! Question 1:
Which trends stood out to you in this year’s projects?
Hinman: There were quite a lot of trends. There were a lot of unique, different projects. Some were actually rather on the dark side. Literally, they wanted to be on the dark side. But they had great ideas, islands, lots of features within the cabinets themselves. Lots of glass. We found that they were also using a mix of materials, more woods than whites. More often than not, you had three and four different materials being used and then lots of different fixtures. It was great. There was a lot to look at.
Question 2:
What’s a design idea you saw that inspired you?
Hinman: I like it when they try to expand the footprint of the kitchens, where they will take and kind of wrap the cabinets around the corner. It gives you the opportunity to access it from both sides or even just give you more counter space, which is a premium. Lots of cabinets and extending them up to the ceiling to get more space.
After two grueling days of judging, they were taken to dinner! The first day there, everyone met each other and was able to enjoy a three course meal, family dinner style at Pizzeria Portofino on the river. They were able to sit at the round table and discuss everyone’s businesses and what they are expecting to learn from this opportunity.
The second day, they had the opportunity to go on a fully restored 19__ Craftsman boat, and took a tour of the river. Being able to see everything Chicago had to offer was an amazing experience. Hinman Construction was so honored to be able to take part, and meet all the wonderful people from across the country!
